Special Projects Solar O&M Technician, Level 2

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Elevate your expertise in the field by working autonomously to carry out advanced inspections, specialized project implementations, and core system diagnostics.

• Safely operate in high-voltage settings without direct supervision, manage subcontracted labor, and mentor junior technicians on-site.

• Aid in the planning and execution of special projects, ensuring compliance with project procedures and guidelines.

• Conduct thorough visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections, testing, and advanced preventative maintenance of various commercial and industrial photovoltaic (PV) systems.

• Execute advanced preventative maintenance tasks, such as infrared thermography, insulation resistance testing, and I/V curve tracing.

• Independently identify and resolve system and operational challenges, safely operating in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct oversight.

• Assist the Director of Special Projects in monitoring and communicating project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and developing technically precise client proposals.

• Document and report all faults, deficiencies, and nonconformances encountered during site activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a technical degree or certification in an electrical field is highly preferred.

• A minimum of 2 to 4 years of proven experience with electrical systems, particularly in solar operations and maintenance (O&M), installation, or commissioning.

• A solid understanding of electrical systems, solar energy principles, grid-tied systems, power generation, and solar technologies is essential.

• Proficient with specialized electrical and PV-specific tools and testing equipment (e.g., I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers, and Isolation testers).

• Capability to read, interpret, and work from PV system as-builts, electrical schematics, and single-line diagrams.

• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are mandatory.

• OSHA 10-Hour certification is required (OSHA 30-Hour preferred). NFPA 70e certification is advantageous. FAA Part 107 Certification and experience with drone operation for aerial thermographic applications is a plus. NABCEP certification (PV Installer or PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist) is also a plus.
