Software Engineering Manager, SDK

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand the SDK engineering team.

• Take ownership of strategy, roadmap, and execution in collaboration with product and design partners.

• Provide guidance on architectural decisions within a large-scale TypeScript codebase.

• Design and deliver minimal APIs for both internal and external developers.

• Review pull requests, resolve technical challenges, guide API design, collaborate on coding, and contribute code.

• Manage the open-source App SDK project, including triaging, defining contribution paths, maintaining changelogs, and fostering community trust.

• Advocate for an enhanced developer experience through type generation, hot reload, and one-command deployment.

• Monitor SDK adoption metrics, deployed applications, and time-to-first-app.

• Work in conjunction with engineering leadership, product, design, DevRel, and partnerships.

• Influence the culture of the Engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be based in the San Francisco/Bay Area or be remote within the United States.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering leadership roles.

• At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer.

• Extensive experience with TypeScript and React, including state management, hooks, module systems, bundling, and core browser concepts.

• Proven experience in building libraries, SDKs, or developer tools utilized by other engineers.

• Background in a product or SaaS company as an engineering manager or senior engineer.

• Experience collaborating closely with product managers and designers.

• Comfortable working with remote and distributed teams.

• Strong ability for clear and concise technical communication, both written and verbal.

• Familiarity with Go, Vite, or Zustand is advantageous.

• Significant experience in maintaining meaningful open-source projects is a plus.

• Experience in API or SDK design at a developer platform company is a plus.

• Experience with automated browser testing and Node.js is a plus.

• Previous startup experience is a plus.
