Software Engineer, Verifications Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend services that support automated verification workflows, financial data integrations, and approval decision-making processes.

• Create distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven services that enhance the scalability, reliability, and reusability of verification functions across various lending products.

• Establish platform capabilities that facilitate reusable financial data connections, optimize connection lifecycle management, and minimize operational overhead for internal engineering teams.

• Collaborate with Machine Learning, Product, Risk, Fraud, and Compliance teams to incorporate data, decision-making logic, and risk models into production systems while ensuring accuracy and auditability.

• Enhance system reliability through thorough testing, monitoring, observability, and operational best practices for mission-critical services.

• Contribute to the advancement of the verification platform by refining architecture, engineering standards, and shared infrastructure that speeds up product development across Upstart.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience) along with 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

• Over 3 years of experience in developing backend applications using Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented programming language.

• Proven experience in designing, constructing, and managing distributed systems, including service-to-service APIs and event-driven architectures.

• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining scalable backend services that handle business-critical or financial data in production environments.

• Experience in contributing to decision engines that integrate with machine learning models to assess signals.

• Proficient in writing production-quality code supported by automated testing, monitoring, and observability practices.
