Software Engineer, Networking – Features

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Contribute to the development of the Tailscale product by working on both open-source client code and associated backend services, focusing on networking features and optimizations.

• Take charge of the full product lifecycle, encompassing everything from coding to product ideation and strategic decision-making.

• Collaborate with UX/UI designers and product managers to develop features that enhance networking functionalities.

• Participate as a member of an engineering team to design, build, test, and document essential networking software components.

• Demonstrate ownership of the operational services that make up Tailscale’s product by enhancing observability, engaging in incident response, and managing customer support escalations.

• Evaluate and enhance the efficiency, scalability, and stability of networking systems and resources.

• Adopt a security-first approach in both design and implementation, ensuring that networking components are robust and secure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in implementing application-layer networking concepts and distributed components, such as proxies, connectors, and overlay routing, to facilitate seamless connectivity.

• In-depth understanding of operating system-level networking internals, including socket programming, routing tables, and packet filtering primitives.

• Professional proficiency in Go (Golang).

• Experience in designing and maintaining distributed systems, with a strong grasp of concurrency (e.g., multithreading, race conditions, memory management, synchronization primitives) and scalability.

• Expertise in relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and crafting efficient SQL queries.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for clearly explaining complex technical concepts.

• Strong collaborative attitude—you actively provide and receive constructive feedback and excel both independently and as part of a team.
