Software Engineer, L2 Segment Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Create and develop robust, scalable backend systems and APIs for Segment’s data platform.

• Work collaboratively with design, product teams, and fellow engineers to identify solutions that maintain a balance between usability, performance, and long-term architecture.

• Clearly communicate technical decisions, highlighting trade-offs, customer impact, and team alignment.

• Diagnose and enhance system reliability by troubleshooting issues and refining operational tools and processes.

• Engage in an on-call rotation for our managed services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in writing production-quality code in a modern programming language.

• Proficient in programming with one or more of the following languages: Go, Java, Python, or other similar languages.

• Experience managing large-scale, distributed systems utilizing cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).

• Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks (e.g., Kubernetes, EKS, ECS).

• Familiarity with large-scale asynchronous processing systems.

• Experience delivering services (products) using a CI/CD development approach.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and the ability to build scalable and extensive systems.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effectively conveying complex technical concepts.

• Comfortable asking questions and taking the initiative to resolve challenges, often requiring the ability to “draw the owl.”
