Software Engineer – Java, Spring Boot

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Gain an understanding of the core Java/Spring Boot services, familiarize yourself with critical processes, and deliver your first impactful solution.

• Take ownership of specific features or services from start to finish, with assistance from the team as necessary.

• Proactively investigate and resolve reliability challenges across APIs, integrations, and transaction processes.

• Mitigate recurring issues such as stalled transactions, unsuccessful callbacks, ambiguous states, and manual escalations.

• Enhance test coverage for essential processes and ensure every area you interact with is left in better condition than you found it.

• Introduce improved observability in weak areas: enhanced logging, alerts, and debugging capabilities.

• Engage in code reviews, share insights, and support fellow engineers.

• Deepen your knowledge of transaction-heavy systems: idempotency, retries, state machines, and reconciliation.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of experience in Java Spring Boot backend development within production environments.

• You write clean, maintainable code, debug thoughtfully, and consider the real-world impact of your work.

• Proficient in REST APIs, background tasks, database design, testing, and debugging.

• Detail-oriented debugger: you trace processes, analyze logs, and identify the underlying root cause.

• You enhance code incrementally rather than opting for a complete rewrite.

• Bonus: Experience in fintech, payments, cryptocurrency, or backend systems focused on transactions.

• Nice to Haves

• Familiarity with transaction principles: idempotency, retries, reconciliation, and state machines.

• Experience in a remote startup environment.
