This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Develop and sustain backend services that facilitate risk identification, fraud prevention, and financial risk management across Coinbase's platform, functioning at the scale, speed, and 24/7 nature of cryptocurrency markets.
β’ Take ownership of feature delivery from start to finish, encompassing technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring, for risk platform functionalities that safeguard users and the business against financial threats.
β’ Collaborate with Data Science, ML, and Risk Analysts teams to create both proactive systems (such as models and user-centric risk features) and reactive solutions (including one-off risk mitigations and incident response tools) aimed at minimizing fraud and financial loss.
β’ Enhance reliability and observability in risk platform services by establishing mechanisms to detect regressions, ensure quick visibility of issues, and participate in incident responses and post-mortem analyses.
β’ Foster the teamβs engineering culture by upholding high code velocity, engaging in code reviews, and developing reusable solutions that can be utilized across the team.
β’ A minimum of 2 years of experience in backend software engineering, with a proven history of delivering production services that handle high-throughput workloads across multiple simultaneous projects.
β’ Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Go, Ruby, Python, Java) and experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and event-streaming architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
β’ A solid understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms, with the capability to independently manage complex tasks and navigate unfamiliar systems with guidance.
β’ Experience in building or working with high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems, including APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud infrastructure.
β’ Familiarity with risk, fraud detection, payment systems (ACH, cards, crypto), blockchain technology (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum), or the specific risk challenges linked to cryptocurrency transactions.
β’ Responsible utilization of generative AI, ensuring human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and achieve measurable enhancements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
