Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, deploy, and assist in the operation of features and components for core developer-infrastructure services — encompassing CI and build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure — that prioritize speed, reliability, and security by default at Coinbase scale.

• Contribute to enhancements in key metrics that every engineer experiences: build and CI wall time, deployment speed and safety, as well as test feedback time and flakiness.

• Manage well-defined components from start to finish — including implementation, testing, rollout, and monitoring — while also participating in your team's on-call rotation.

• Produce high-quality, thoroughly tested, and observable code, with a focus on production readiness from day one.

• Work collaboratively with engineering teams across Coinbase (your customers) to identify pain points and convert them into tangible platform enhancements.

• Engage in technical design discussions for team initiatives and independently drive your own tasks to completion.

• Expand your impact by sharing knowledge, providing thoughtful code reviews, and elevating the quality standards within your team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in building and operating production software, with a solid foundation in distributed systems and proficiency (or the ability to quickly learn) in a language such as Go (or similar).

• Proven history of delivering backend or platform features that are utilized by other engineers or services, taking ownership from implementation to production.

• Strong operational instincts — you prioritize reliability, security, and observability, and you write code with production in mind.

• Excellent communication skills and the capability to drive scoped projects to completion with minimal guidance, while effectively collaborating within a team.

• A customer-centric approach: you gauge success by the impact your systems have on fellow engineers.

• Familiarity with a developer infrastructure or platform domain: CI/CD, build systems, deployment/release tooling, test infrastructure, or developer productivity engineering.

• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or container technologies (Docker/OCI).

• Proficient in observability and performance tools (e.g., Datadog) to assess and enhance system behavior.

• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, ensuring human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
