This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Create, edit, and enhance content for social media, including captions, calls to action, text for digital flyers, infographic content, scripts for videos, storyboards, and other multimedia materials.
• Develop tailored content for various social and digital platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and emerging channels, focusing on audience engagement, tone, length, accessibility, and overall interaction.
• Assist in video production by drafting and refining content, integrating input from subject matter experts (SMEs), and managing edits throughout the review process.
• Assess media monitoring reports, e-clipping outputs, dashboards, and analytics summaries for precision, relevance, source credibility, functional hyperlinks, duplicate entries, proper tagging, and formatting uniformity.
• Identify inconsistencies in media monitoring results and collaborate with the Project Manager, media monitoring team, or Meltwater representatives to rectify logical errors, search terms, source selection, or other concerns.
• Aid in the creation and enhancement of Meltwater Search Agents, keywords, phrases, media lists, and monitoring criteria related to disaster assistance, state/local/tribal outlets, volunteer/non-profit organizations, and stakeholder audiences.
• Support daily media sweeps and reporting processes, which include validating e-clipping content and ensuring timely reporting during regular operations and high-profile disaster situations.
• Summarize trends and performance insights derived from media monitoring, social media metrics, reach/impressions, engagement levels, sentiment analysis, share of voice, pickups, and other pertinent indicators.
• Work collaboratively with designers, animators, video editors, and communications leads to guarantee that multimedia products are accurate, clear, aligned with branding, optimized for platforms, and prepared for posting or distribution.
• Implement plain-language writing, digital accessibility standards, Section 508 compliance, considerations for alt text, captions/transcripts, and quality control practices in social and multimedia content.
• Keep organized content files, version histories, feedback trackers, and editorial calendars or content plans as necessary.
• Respond promptly to client feedback, changing priorities, and urgent communication needs during disasters while ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in social media, digital communications, public affairs, marketing, journalism, content strategy, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, English, digital media, emergency management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in writing and editing social media or multimedia content for public-facing audiences, ideally within government, public sector, nonprofit, emergency management, or regulated environments.
• Experience in analyzing analytics, media monitoring reports, social listening outputs, e-clipping reports, or performance dashboards for accuracy and actionable insights.
• Knowledge of social media platforms and best practices for digital content, including tailoring copy and creative strategies to the specific channel, audience, format, and objectives.
• Familiarity with media monitoring or social listening tools; experience with Meltwater is preferred.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, plain-language, and quality assurance capabilities, with meticulous attention to accuracy, tone, grammar, and source details.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks, quick-turn deadlines, stakeholder feedback, and version control in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of accessible digital communications, encompassing alt text, captions, transcripts, clear language, and Section 508 awareness.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance or federal suitability determination.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• This position is fully remote.
• Some travel for client meetings and/or video shoots may be required.
