Short Term Scheduling Specialist – AME, LATAM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Advocate for safety standards throughout all operations, including oversight of contractors on site, in alignment with Barrick’s Journey to Zero Harm.

• Ensure site activities are in sync with the business plan and overarching business objectives. Provide governance for all underground operations that are both realistic and achievable, while driving performance enhancements and exploring developmental prospects. Assist in formulating short-term budgets and cash flow forecasts for the region.

• Oversee the operational performance of sites. Offer technical guidance to site and regional teams by spending time on-site and engaging regularly to monitor progress. Ensure optimal performance of underground operations while proactively addressing and overcoming potential challenges.

• Enhance the capabilities of site leadership teams. Cultivate a relationship of trust and respect, and proactively manage performance through feedback and interventions to boost individual and team effectiveness. Facilitate career advancement opportunities for leaders and ensure proper succession planning is in place.

• Serve as a crucial link between ExCo and underground sites. Provide weekly updates to the AME & LATAM ExCo, distilling critical information and reporting on the sites’ underground technical performance against the business plan, highlighting key challenges and necessary actions.

• Establish and uphold Barrick’s License to Operate. Collaborate closely with site General Managers and Country Managers to engage with host nation stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and suppliers. Ensure awareness of varying requirements across all sites. Play a vital role in local workforce development by bringing nationals through and managing their career paths.

• Implement and maintain the AME & LATAM UG Mining Management Operating System (MOS):

• Provide regional operational oversight to ensure that underground mine plans accurately capture, quantify, and escalate changes/variations as needed, with sign-off to account for additional resource and cost requirements, inclusive of Planning Risk reviews to ensure flexibility.

• Introduce flexibility into mine plans by quantifying risks and opportunities, and determining minimum KPI levels per site.

• Standardize mining operational and cost models to efficiently and accurately track and forecast key business outputs, driving Group-wide cost reduction initiatives.

• Develop and implement a more integrated weekly planning template (7+21) for all underground mines.

• Enhance technical capabilities and standards.

• Create a regional Mine Design Standard and establish a bi-weekly ROW Mine Design review board.

• Provide technical input and guidance for long-term planning to ensure sustained and highly efficient underground mining operations.

• Standardize software requirements through the utilization of available Deswik, VentSim, and PumpSim packages.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.

• At least 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, mine planning, or technical services, with significant exposure to short-term scheduling, operational execution, and performance improvement in complex underground mining environments.

• Proven experience in developing, reviewing, and overseeing underground short-term mine plans, including 7+21 planning, risk and opportunity identification, KPI tracking, resource requirements, and cost implications.

• Strong technical expertise in underground mine design, sequencing, scheduling, and operating model development, with the capability to translate long-term plans into actionable short-term schedules.

• Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance to site and regional teams, identify operational constraints, drive corrective measures, and support the achievement of safety, production, cost, and business plan objectives.

• Advanced proficiency in underground planning and design software, including Deswik, VentSim, and PumpSim, with the ability to standardize software usage and enhance planning capabilities across multiple sites.

• Exceptional leadership, coaching, and stakeholder engagement abilities, with the capacity to build trust, influence senior site leaders, develop technical expertise, and support succession planning within underground operations.

• A strong commitment to safety leadership and operational discipline, with experience in promoting safe work practices and fostering continuous improvement aligned with Zero Harm principles.
