This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create, enhance, revise, edit, and proofread language curricula and instructional materials, including comprehensive daily lesson plans, materials for students, supplemental curriculum elements, scope and sequence charts, and other related resources.
• Ensure that the assigned curriculum products are coherent, precise, engaging, aligned with standards, suitable for the appropriate age group, and level-appropriate.
• Adapt curriculum materials to reflect the language, history, and culture of each CIEE program location.
• Provide editorial and content expertise for prototypes, specifications, and updated master curriculum models developed in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and/or Executive Editor.
• Source, onboard, support, and manage freelance editors and contributors across various languages.
• This involves addressing inquiries, reviewing and editing submitted work, offering feedback, and ensuring adherence to CIEE’s pedagogical approach and development guidelines.
• Oversee assigned curriculum development workflows and project schedules in accordance with established editorial guidelines, timelines, and priorities.
• Identify project bottlenecks and suggest improvements to editorial processes, documentation, and team efficiency.
• Propose updates to development guidelines and assist in onboarding or training freelancers and contributors on established procedures.
• Maintain current scope and sequence documents for assigned curricula.
• Manage copyright permissions for authentic resources across different languages.
• Support the annual training of HSSA instructors, which includes an online asynchronous Canvas course supplemented by synchronous live, virtual workshops.
• Provide assistance to international staff and instructors regarding academic matters through email and video calls.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of staff and student-facing courses in CIEE’s learning management system, Canvas.
• Assess the effectiveness of the language curriculum using both qualitative and quantitative measures, such as survey results, instructor feedback, site visits, and pre- and post-program language proficiency assessment data.
• Modify the curriculum to enhance outcomes.
• Stay updated on trends and innovations in K–12, world language, and international education sectors.
• Help position CIEE as a leader in language education by presenting at relevant conferences and networking with experts in language learning and education abroad.
• Bachelor’s degree in applied linguistics, second language acquisition, curriculum and instruction, world language education, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of editorial experience as a senior editor in educational publishing and curriculum development.
• Proven experience in owning or leading the editorial development of substantial curriculum products.
• Professional fluency in Spanish; proficiency in additional languages such as French, Italian, or German is advantageous.
• Outstanding written communication skills in English, strong attention to detail, and excellent editorial judgment.
• Capability to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality.
• Experience in managing freelancers, external contributors, or cross-functional collaborators.
• Expertise in world language standards (ACTFL) and experience in developing scope and sequence documents and standards-aligned lessons.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a willingness to quickly learn new systems.
