This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Lead the evaluation and assessment of intricate mortgage loan applications, ensuring compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Serve as a subject matter expert, offering insights on risk analysis and best practices in underwriting.
• Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of complex loan applications, including borrower creditworthiness, income, assets, and property valuations, using advanced judgment to mitigate risk.
• Make high-level underwriting decisions regarding approvals, counteroffers, or denials, taking into account nuanced risk factors and the long-term impact on the portfolio.
• Ensure that all underwriting activities comply with company policies, federal and state regulations, and investor requirements, while proactively identifying compliance gaps and recommending improvements.
• Act as a resource for junior underwriters and team members by providing training, guidance, and feedback to improve underwriting quality and consistency.
• Effectively communicate with loan officers, processors, and management to resolve complex issues, negotiate conditions, and maintain transparency throughout the loan process.
• Anticipate and address challenges in the underwriting process by proposing innovative solutions that align with business objectives while managing risk.
• Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and new product developments, contributing to policy updates and process improvements.
• Undertake special projects and additional duties as required.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in finance, business, or a related field; OR an associate degree with two (2) years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) with four (4) years of relevant experience.
• At least three (3) years of progressive experience in the relevant field.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in mortgage underwriting functions.
• Advanced knowledge of multiple loan products.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Office 365 and technology including Encompass.
• Willingness to pursue continuing education, certifications, and other opportunities for advancement within the organization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to speak confidently.
• Capability to thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities shift frequently, requiring employees to adapt to various roles.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to think creatively and prioritize tasks and decisions in a timely manner.
