Lead Privacy Counsel, Infrastructure & Data Governance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the creation, implementation, and continuous upkeep of Mozilla’s essential privacy compliance framework, which includes enterprise data mapping and documentation of processing activities.

• Proactively lead intricate cross-departmental privacy projects and establish scalable governance protocols with minimal supervision.

• Assess and provide guidance on the evolving landscape of U.S., European, and international privacy and AI-related regulations and industry standards pertinent to enterprise operations and internal data governance.

• Design and implement scalable global privacy compliance methodologies, controls, and documentation standards across Mozilla’s internal systems and business units.

• Manage and consult on third-party privacy risk evaluations, including vendor DPIAs, LIAs, TIAs, and associated due diligence processes, employing a scalable strategy to manage and mitigate risks.

• Assist in managing Mozilla’s privacy incident response strategy, encompassing triage, risk evaluation, escalation management, documentation, and coordination of remediation efforts.

• Create scalable training, intake, and operational workflows to enhance organizational privacy maturity and alleviate friction for internal stakeholders, including the maintenance and implementation of a robust privacy risk framework.

• Offer privacy counsel in M&A transactions and support post-close integration endeavors.

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. degree and membership in a state bar in good standing (or equivalent foreign qualification).

• 8+ years of relevant legal expertise, with significant experience providing counsel on global privacy and data governance issues as in-house legal counsel.

• Proven experience in developing and sustaining privacy compliance frameworks, encompassing data mapping, documentation of processing activities, governance structures, risk rubrics, and operational privacy workflows.

• Established capability to work independently, take charge of complex cross-functional projects, and drive effective, scalable results in a dynamic environment.

• Ability to achieve impactful outcomes and engagement using limited resources to deliver results.

• Proven track record of managing multiple projects concurrently while fostering consensus among cross-functional teams.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear messages, craft and refine content for diverse audiences (from junior engineers to senior executives), and deliver polished presentations.
