• Acts on behalf of insured clients and Allstate in defending against lawsuits related to bodily injury, auto liability, and premises liability, including matters of Personal Injury Protection, dog bites, and slip-and-fall incidents.
• Effectively manages an active litigation docket independently, focusing heavily on motion practice and court representation.
• Prepares meticulously for and leads hearings, mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and occasional trials.
• Drafts and presents pre-trial and post-trial motions along with other substantive legal documents.
• Frequently appears in court.
• Offers practical everyday legal advice to internal business partners and claims professionals.
• Collaborates efficiently with paralegals, administrative personnel, and leadership, while primarily functioning independently as the sole attorney for the region.
• Stays informed about relevant Michigan statutes, regulations, and case law; assesses legal changes; and provides insights on their implications for claims and business teams.
• Juris Doctorate.
• Active membership in good standing with the Michigan State Bar is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of litigation experience in Michigan, with a proven track record of independently managing cases from start to finish.
• Preferred strong background in insurance defense, bodily injury, auto liability, or premises liability cases.
• Established courtroom advocacy skills; comfortable with regular court appearances.
• Solid experience in depositions, motion practice, and developing litigation strategies.
• Ability to handle a litigation-focused caseload with minimal oversight.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, legal research tools (preferably LexisNexis), and virtual court technology.
• Comfortable working in a fully remote setting while supporting courts in Western Michigan.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within Michigan.
