This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Manage and enhance the performance and effectiveness of SMPA’s global transportation network to guarantee timely and accurate delivery of pharmaceutical products, including those requiring cold-chain and/or security controls.
• Develop, communicate, and refine KPIs, while analyzing both positive and negative trends for further evaluation.
• Ensure accuracy in deliveries by reconciling and resolving transaction discrepancies.
• Address issues and escalations, determine root causes, and lead corrective actions.
• Act as the main point of contact for transportation-related matters within the team.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across delivery processes to boost customer satisfaction and minimize operating costs.
• Identify opportunities for efficiency, implement necessary changes, and manage projects and cross-functional teams to achieve results.
• Oversee and optimize domestic and international transportation networks and operations.
• Establish criteria for mode selection, enhance efficiency, mitigate risks, and create, communicate, and enforce SMPA routing guidelines.
• Assist with spot and long-term service and pricing agreements while maintaining relevant documentation.
• Participate in planning and implementation teams for new product launches to address transportation needs.
• Support and contribute to transportation validation studies.
• Collaborate with various departments including Order-to-Cash, Trade, IT, Tax, Finance, Commercial Manufacturing, Supply Chain Operations, Quality, Legal, Sourcing, Regulatory, Insurance, and Trade Compliance to facilitate transportation activities, ensure timely deliveries, and exceed customer expectations.
• Independently resolve complex operational issues on a day-to-day basis and escalate significant issues when necessary.
• Ensure that processes and systems are documented and comply with Quality Management System requirements, Good Manufacturing and Distribution Practices, and FDA regulations.
• Act as the commercial lead for transportation partners and manage transportation tenders and RFPs from start to finish.
• Ensure visibility of shipments, lead discussions on technical solutions, negotiate freight agreement terms, and oversee AVL setup, purchase order and budget management, invoice auditing, and payment processes.
• Serve as the subject matter expert in global transportation.
• Maintain adequate knowledge to provide backup assistance for U.S. Distribution and Trade Compliance during short-term absences.
• 3–6 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, or related functions within an outsourced GxP environment.
• Strong understanding of freight provider networks and third-party logistics (3PL) processes, controls, and best practices.
• Proven experience with logistics practices in pharmaceutical manufacturing or a related field.
• Familiarity with technical solutions that enhance logistics management efficiency and visibility.
• Knowledge and experience in supporting transport studies.
• Working understanding of GMP and GDP as they pertain to transportation.
• Practical knowledge of cold-chain transportation solutions for pharmaceuticals.
• Ability to operate across global time zones; communication may sometimes occur outside of standard business hours.
• Knowledge of domestic and international freight management across all transportation modes.
• Familiarity with customs compliance regulations and import/export processes is preferred.
• Understanding of ERP/MRP systems and data management; SAP experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of DSCSA regulations is preferred.
• Capability to evaluate data, generate reports, identify trends, and suggest alternatives.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Smartsheet.
• APICS-CLTD or a similar certification is preferred.
