Senior Threat Researcher – AI, Autonomous Cybercrime

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Monitor the improper application of AI systems utilizing Flare's extensive archive of cybercrime intelligence accumulated over the past decade.

• Act as Flare's main subject matter expert for customer RFIs and inquiries regarding the use of AI by threat actors.

• Detect emerging threats and create briefings, research, and presentations pertaining to AI-enabled cybercrime and autonomous systems.

• Provide guidance to customers alongside sales and customer-facing teams on AI-related threats, risks, and defensive measures.

• Conduct regular threat briefings concerning the misuse of AI by cybercriminals.

• Generate original research focused on autonomous AI systems, identity-based threats, the role of AI in dark web and Telegram ecosystems, and new AI-driven attack chains.

• Present research findings at industry conferences, ISAC meetings, customer events, and executive briefings.

• Convert technical discoveries into business risks at the board level for CISOs and executive leadership.

• Collaborate with marketing and sales to promote thought leadership, enhance customer relationships, and expand the pipeline.

• Represent Flare at conferences, trade shows, and industry gatherings.

• Develop and manage a 6–12 month AI threat research roadmap.

• Establish yourself as the technical authority for strategic customer interactions related to AI threats and autonomous cybercrime.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience working with cybercrime data and in dynamic research environments.

• In-depth technical knowledge of the cybercrime ecosystem, including stealer logs, credential and identity threats, underground forums and markets, malware, command and control operations, and threat actors and their infrastructure.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in law enforcement, intelligence, or security roles.

• A demonstrated history of original research and a public presence, including published works, conference presentations, or media mentions.

• Experience in threat intelligence from a cybersecurity vendor, government cyber organization, or reputable independent research entity.

• Capability to navigate structured processes and uncertainty in a startup atmosphere.

• A commitment to high-quality, defensible, and first-to-market research.

• Willingness to work occasional after-hours to address rapidly evolving threats.

• Nice to have: experience using AI for detection and classification.

• Nice to have: experience collaborating with product, marketing, or customer success teams.

• Nice to have: substantial experience in threat intelligence or cybercrime.

• Nice to have: background in software engineering or DevOps.
