This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Take full responsibility for Pliant’s developer documentation, including API references, guides, recipes, quick starts, and conceptual materials for both direct clients and embedded finance partners.
• Spearhead a comprehensive redesign of our information architecture, creating frameworks that align with the tasks developers and integrators need to accomplish, ensuring each audience can navigate efficiently.
• Lead the effort to merge our Direct and Partner API documentation into a unified platform as the underlying APIs are integrated into the Pliant API.
• Conduct hands-on validation of documentation by reviewing code and API specifications, executing endpoint calls, running integration flows, and identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement prior to customer or partner discovery.
• Set and maintain documentation standards, including voice and style guides, contribution models, and review processes, enabling engineers and PMs to contribute consistently while you serve as the editorial steward.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering on API governance, advocating for uniform naming conventions, error management, and behavior across endpoints, while integrating insights from documentation efforts back into the platform.
• Enhance our developer portal and documentation tools to ensure rapid publishing, easy content maintenance, and an exceptional reader experience.
• Leverage modern AI tools to draft, restructure, identify gaps, and maintain consistency across extensive content, while retaining ownership of quality, accuracy, and editorial judgment.
• Define and monitor quality indicators such as time-to-first-successful-API-call, support deflection on documented topics, content freshness, and doc-related integration challenges, using these metrics to prioritize tasks.
• Over 5 years of experience in technical writing, showcasing a proven ability to develop or significantly enhance developer documentation for API-first products.
• Direct experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated, infrastructure-heavy B2B sector is highly advantageous.
• Strong skills in information architecture: you have crafted documentation structures from the ground up based on actual audience usage rather than organizational structure of feature teams.
• Proficient in docs-as-code workflows and capable of reading code and API specifications well enough to independently verify functionality without relying on engineers for guidance.
• Comfortable working alongside engineers and product managers as a technical peer: you ask insightful questions, challenge ambiguity, and prioritize understanding the core concepts.
• Exceptional editorial judgment: clarity, consistency, and conciseness are second nature to you, and you maintain high standards across content produced by non-writers.
• Experienced with modern AI tools for writing and editing, with a clear perspective on where they provide leverage and where human judgment is essential.
• Possess a strong sense of ownership and the confidence to define what “great” documentation entails and drive its realization.
• Proficient in English; additional European languages are a plus.
• Competitive compensation
• Flexible work arrangements, with the option to work remotely across Europe or from any of our seven European offices
