• Take ownership of the product vision for the Kotlin plugin, ensuring it delivers fast, accurate, and reliable IDE support that evolves alongside the language.
• Utilize IntelliJ IDEA with the Kotlin plugin on a daily basis, testing features, identifying regressions, and validating the developer experience firsthand.
• Develop and maintain reference Kotlin projects that showcase new features, provide material for conference demonstrations, and serve as a continuous testing ground for developer experience quality.
• Create prototypes and proofs-of-concept leveraging AI coding agents to explore and validate innovative capabilities.
• Manage and continually update the plugin roadmap, balancing short-term release objectives, mid-term initiatives, and long-term projects related to the Kotlin ecosystem.
• Ensure plugin planning aligns with Kotlin compiler releases, IntelliJ IDEA release schedules, and constraints of Android Studio.
• Make clear trade-offs and assertively decline initiatives when costs, risks, or maintenance challenges outweigh user benefits.
• Define problem statements, success criteria, and feature scope, then collaborate with engineers to validate and refine them.
• Represent key Kotlin personas — including JVM backend developers, library authors, and teams focused on Android and Multiplatform — prioritizing recurring challenges such as false positives, slow analysis, unreliable refactoring, onboarding difficulties, and AI agent integrations.
• Conduct regular monthly user interviews to ground decisions in actual workflows.
• Collaborate with the Kotlin language team, Developer Advocates, framework partners, Marketing, and other teams within JetBrains.
• Enhance external visibility through updates on new features, presentations at Kotlin User Groups meetups, and feature previews at events like KotlinConf, Spring I/O, Devoxx, and more.
