This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.
• Perform thorough and independent research and analysis on intricate federal and state tax issues.
• Assist the Tax Content Team in ensuring that tax content remains accurate, timely, and beneficial across various channels.
• Offer subject matter expertise for training, communication, media inquiries, and other tax-related initiatives.
• Examine and document the implications of proposed, enacted, or expiring tax legislation.
• Create detailed materials on advanced tax subjects.
• Develop and present tax law content for both internal training sessions and external media engagements as required.
• Collaborate with Tax Research, Product, Engineering, Learning, Communications, and Legal teams.
• Convert tax law into actionable, user-oriented guidance while enhancing content quality, usability, and operational efficiency.
• Investigate and assess current federal and state tax developments, preparing documentation and analysis accordingly.
• Create, update, and maintain tax content, practice aids, and technical resources.
• Interpret tax codes, regulations, and case law, drawing conclusions and providing recommendations on tax treatment.
• Review current-year tax forms and document changes impacting H&R Block tax software products.
• Support quick response efforts for significant changes in tax law and developments during the filing season.
• Track new tax developments and compose analyses of tax law, rulings, case law, and regulations for internal departments, tax office associates, practitioners, and the general public.
• Investigate tax and financial issues, providing explanations, analysis, and recommendations.
• Plan, research, develop, and write tax-related research projects and training materials.
• Coordinate or assist with tax issue research and offer technical assistance to other departments and the research team.
• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience through a combination of education and related work experience.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in tax preparation and/or tax research or a similar field.
• Capability to clearly articulate complex tax situations.
• Ability to interpret, analyze, and accurately develop solutions for highly complex tax scenarios.
• Strong skills in written communication.
• Credentials regulated under Circular 230 (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) credential.
• Proven ability to effectively research complex tax issues and communicate findings clearly.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, conceptual, intellectual, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective project management skills for completing assignments on time and within budget.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Understanding of tax research principles, procedures, and techniques.
• Operational knowledge of tax law and regulations sufficient to understand and explain aspects of personal, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, estate, gift, and international taxation.
• Writing skills to convey complex tax information clearly and in plain language.
• Preferred: Knowledge of federal and state tax administration, including litigation, tax compliance, and auditing.
• Preferred: 5 years of experience in tax preparation and/or tax research.
