Senior Tax Manager, State and Local Tax

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Lead and oversee intricate SALT engagements encompassing sales & use, state income, and franchise tax.

• Act as a trusted advisor on nexus, apportionment, taxability, and multi-state strategic planning.

• Supervise the review of returns, provisions, and technical memoranda.

• Direct audit defense, VDAs, and tax controversy projects.

• Provide guidance on income/franchise tax implications, including state filings, apportionment methodologies, and planning strategies.

• Cultivate and sustain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for growth.

• Mentor and develop Managers and staff, contributing to the establishment of a high-performing team.

• Support initiatives for practice growth, process enhancements, and potential business development activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12+ years of SALT experience is required (public accounting or consulting).

• Strong expertise in sales & use tax, along with a working knowledge of state income and franchise tax.

• Experience with multi-state income/franchise compliance, planning, and apportionment.

• Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams and client engagements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• CPA, MST, or JD is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with indirect tax technology (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) is an advantage.
