This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise and environmental tax returns in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Reconcile tax liability accounts utilizing Blackline.
• Maintain comprehensive databases and documentation for tax exemptions, rates, and regulations.
• Conduct tax research to ensure adherence to state and local filing obligations.
• Utilize Avalara and AKORE software for jurisdictional reporting.
• Investigate and maintain thorough communication regarding tax notices received.
• Address inquiries related to motor vehicle taxes by researching and interpreting state communications.
• Ensure compliance requirements are met for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist audit activities by conducting research and aiding in the resolution of state and local indirect motor fuel tax matters.
• Research and resolve tax-related disputes involving customers and suppliers.
• Mentor junior accountants in tax law research and its application.
• Support initiatives aimed at process improvement.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting from a recognized four-year college or university.
• Five or more years of experience in filing U.S. fuel excise tax returns.
• Strong communication skills for engaging with internal customers and external tax authorities.
• Ability to interpret motor fuel tax law and document scenarios for tax jurisdictions.
• Familiarity with Oracle, PDI, or OTS ERP systems.
• Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivots, and formulas.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and organizational abilities.
• Capability to meet filing deadlines and complete tasks efficiently.
• Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic and evolving business environment.
