
Senior System Software Engineer, SoC Power and Performance – O-RAN Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Design, develop, test, and enhance system software and firmware for SoCs utilized in O-RAN and cellular infrastructure.
• Formulate power-management strategies and optimize performance across CPU, GPU, accelerator, memory, interconnect, I/O, and networking subsystems.
• Examine representative RU and DU workloads to pinpoint compute, memory bandwidth, latency, synchronization, and data-movement constraints.
• Develop and refine DVFS, clock and power gating, idle-state management, thermal controls, and system-level power budgeting.
• Produce performance and power models, measurement tools, benchmarks, and automated testing frameworks for both pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
• Employ simulation, emulation, prototyping, and production silicon to confirm architectural choices and detect power and performance challenges.
• Assess system behavior against O-RAN and cellular-interface specifications for timing, synchronization, latency, throughput, and reliability.
• Shape future SoC, platform, and cellular-software architectures through workload analysis and metrics from deployed systems.
• Collaborate with hardware, architecture, platform, networking, and cellular-software teams throughout pre-silicon development, silicon bring-up, productization, and deployment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Over 5 years of pertinent experience in system software, embedded software, firmware, computer architecture, cellular infrastructure, or performance engineering.
• Proficiency in developing and debugging software for complex SoCs or embedded platforms.
• Strong programming capabilities in C or C++, along with Python or a comparable scripting language.
• Understanding of computer architecture and hardware-software interactions, including multicore systems, memory hierarchies, caches, interconnects, interrupts, memory-mapped I/O, and DMA.
• Experience with operating system internals, Linux kernel development, device drivers, concurrency, virtual memory, and real-time or latency-sensitive programming.
• Expertise in performance measurement, workload characterization, data analysis, bottleneck identification, and system optimization.
• Familiarity with SoC power-management principles, such as DVFS, clock and power gating, thermal management, and power/performance budgeting.
• Solid understanding of cellular infrastructure and radio-access-network architecture.
• Knowledge of 5G/6G interface standards, including 3GPP NR interfaces and protocols, O-RAN Open Fronthaul, eCPRI, and synchronization/timing technologies.
• Direct experience with O-RAN Radio Unit or Distributed Unit is preferred as a differentiator.
• Familiarity with DPDK, accelerated networking, zero-copy data paths, SR-IOV, RDMA, SmartNICs, DPUs, GPUs, or baseband accelerators is a plus.
