Senior System Protection Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead intricate analyses such as short-circuit and symmetrical component studies to ensure system reliability.

• Design and enhance relay settings and coordination strategies for essential infrastructure.

• Develop sophisticated protection schemes for transmission, distribution, generation, and renewable energy projects—pioneering innovation in power systems.

• Create and implement test plans, assist with commissioning, and resolve protection system events to uphold operational excellence.

• Ensure compliance through NERC PRC reporting and adherence to industry standards.

• Mentor and collaborate, providing technical guidance to engineers and promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing.

• Exhibit a willingness to innovate by embracing and applying emerging technology and AI tools to improve workflows, solve challenges, and foster continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) is mandatory.

• PE License is essential.

• A minimum of 10 years of pertinent engineering experience is required.

• Proficiency in system modeling and fault analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, EasyPower) is necessary.

• Strong understanding of relay coordination and protective settings for systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 345 kV (experience with 500 kV/765 kV is a plus).

• Familiarity with NERC PRC standards is required.

• Experience in on-site commissioning and relay testing is preferred.

• Membership in the IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee is advantageous.

• Capability to review and produce design documents (one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams) is essential.

• Knowledge of SCADA, communications, substation equipment, and NEC is required.

• Willingness to travel 10–20% annually is expected.

• A valid driver’s license and permanent U.S. work authorization are necessary.
