This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Design and develop significant data systems, pipelines, frameworks, and reusable components, taking ownership of architecture within your domain and contributing to organization-wide design in collaboration with the Director of Data Engineering.
• Personally execute intricate, high-impact data engineering tasks on IAA’s Azure data and analytics framework — including ingestion, transformation, storage, semantic modeling, and data delivery.
• Implement and assist in refining engineering standards and methodologies related to code quality, performance, scalability, observability, and governance, promoting their adoption through practical examples and code/design reviews.
• Construct robust pipelines, semantic models, and data products that drive dashboards, self-service analytics, forecasting, and downstream machine learning applications.
• Develop production-grade data pipelines and feature/data infrastructure essential for data scientists to train, serve, and operationalize models.
• Identify and resolve challenging performance, reliability, and scalability issues across BI and data workloads (e.g., Power BI, Synapse, Fabric).
• Contribute to the technical strategy involving Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Power BI, and broader Azure BI technologies, assisting in evaluating new tools and guiding build/buy decisions.
• Mentor data engineers and analytics engineers, conducting design reviews to enhance the technical prowess of the team.
• Act as a technical partner to engineering leadership regarding data architecture and technical trade-offs within your area of responsibility.
• Convert complex business challenges into practical, scalable, and well-designed data solutions.
• Extensive hands-on experience in a senior or staff-level data engineering role, with a proven history of designing and delivering large-scale production data systems.
• In-depth knowledge of the Azure BI/data technology stack, including:
• - Microsoft Fabric
• - Azure Synapse Analytics
• - Power BI and semantic modeling
• - Wider Azure data and analytics services
