📋 Description

• Oversee the most intricate, uncertain, and high-stakes research projects, establishing a benchmark for research excellence and directly influencing the organization's product vision.

• Foster user-centered decision-making at the executive level, impacting directors and VPs while ensuring that user needs are woven into the long-term product and business strategies.

• Collaborate cross-functionally at a strategic level with product, design, engineering, data science, and marketing teams to pinpoint high-impact research opportunities and align insights with business priorities.

• Synthesize diverse data sources — including qualitative and quantitative research, behavioral data, and market intelligence — to develop cohesive, evidence-based viewpoints on user experience.

• Thoughtfully utilize AI tools throughout the research process while applying critical evaluation to guarantee the accuracy of outputs.

• Establish standards for responsible AI utilization in research, creating frameworks that the wider team adopts and that position Mozilla as a frontrunner in ethical AI-assisted research practices.

• Advance the research practice by raising the methodological standards, identifying skill gaps within the team, and mentoring researchers at the Staff level and below.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of applied research experience (or equivalent), including strategic research leadership in complex organizations, with at least 6 years in the tech/SaaS sector.

• Extensive experience in leading both evaluative and generative research across various stages of the product development lifecycle.

• Proven success in dynamic, agile settings, adapting to changing priorities while maintaining research impact.

• Profound knowledge of qualitative methods (e.g., interviews, concept testing, usability studies) and hands-on experience with quantitative techniques (e.g., survey design, data analysis).

• Exceptional judgment in determining research priorities at the program level, managing trade-offs across multiple concurrent projects, and providing guidance to other researchers on methods, scope, and strategic framing.

• Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of AI tools utilized in research workflows, with the ability to critically assess their outputs, define organizational standards for their application, and guide the team in their responsible and effective use.

• Acknowledged as an internal authority in research methodology, capable of introducing innovative approaches, advancing the field, and advising others when standard methods are insufficient.

• A collaborative and influential communicator, adept at forming partnerships with cross-functional teams and driving alignment through evidence-based insights.
