Senior / Staff Documentation Engineer – AI & Docs Tooling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Manage documentation as a cohesive system, including the pipelines that create and publish it, AI-enhanced workflows for drafts, the review and publication process, and the infrastructure for AI agents.

• Develop the existing docs-as-code framework into a capability that integrates AI agents.

• Oversee the documentation site and its software publishing, including the docs-as-code repository, CI/CD pipelines, and automated checks for links, structure, and quality.

• Enhance AI-augmented documentation processes: AI-supported drafting, summarization, consistency verification, and improvements to feedback loops.

• Organize content for AI system utilization while maintaining interfaces for agents.

• Produce reference documentation from source material and ensure it remains synchronized with code updates.

• Simplify the process for internal contributors to publish their documentation through automation.

• Manage the cadence for release notes and customer communications.

• Uphold the documentation style guide and the team runbook.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in documentation tooling, content engineering, or developer documentation for a developer platform or enterprise B2B product.

• Proficient in scripting or web technologies (such as Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript) and highly skilled in docs-as-code practices: Git, pull-request review, CI/CD, and static-site or CMS publishing pipelines.

• Hands-on experience in creating AI-augmented or LLM-backed workflows, including the integration of LLM APIs, AI-assisted authoring, and structuring content for AI processing.

• Ability to analyze and understand a real codebase and API surface well enough to document it accurately and build tools around it.

• Strong editorial acumen: capable of transforming complex engineering changes into clear, accurate, and customer-friendly documentation.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience in making documentation accessible to AI agents (e.g., llms.txt, content negotiation, RAG pipelines, MCP servers).

• Background in BioPharma or scientific software, or experience in regulated and validated (GxP) environments.

• Proficient in generating reference documentation from OpenAPI or similar specifications with two-way Git synchronization.

• Exposure to developer relations or developer education.
