
Senior Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Manage a Texas WC defense caseload from start to finish
• Collaborate closely with claims professionals to establish strategy, assess exposure, and facilitate thoughtful, timely resolutions
• Prepare and present witnesses and evidence in front of Administrative Law Judges
• Recognize opportunities for and submit requests for SIF reimbursements in situations where Hartford has overpaid benefits
• Offer prompt, clear legal advice to claims partners and insured parties
• Foster and sustain professional relationships with opposing counsel, judges/boards, and external partners
• Contribute to a culture of learning by engaging in team huddles, case roundtables, file reviews, and occasional training sessions for attorneys and claims partners
• Keep abreast of updates in Texas workers’ compensation law, procedures, and legal technology; fulfill continuing legal education requirements as necessary
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Over 5 years of legal practice experience with substantial, independent management of complex Texas workers’ compensation cases
• Valid license to practice law in Texas
• Member in good standing of the relevant Bar Association
• Strong skills in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy
• Proven ability to independently manage a caseload, prioritize competing deadlines, and exercise sound judgment
• Experience with Texas DWC hearings
• Experience in drafting DWC forms, preparing medical analysis letters for Designated Doctor Exams, and preparing and presenting evidence and witnesses in BRCs and CCHs.
