Senior Staff Accountant, Lease Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Assist with month-end closing activities related to lease accounting, encompassing reconciliations, journal entries, capitalization schedules, and associated analyses.

• Evaluate new lease agreements and aid in determining lease classifications in compliance with ASC 842.

• Keep and refresh lease accounting records in ProLease, primarily focusing on real estate leases.

• Create and uphold lease amortization schedules, roll forwards, reconciliations, and all necessary supporting documentation.

• Collaborate closely with Real Estate, Equipment, and other internal stakeholders to proactively identify, assess, and account for lease activities.

• Assist with operating lease accounting processes, with opportunities to engage with finance leases and embedded leases as required.

• Utilize Oracle and Excel to investigate, analyze, reconcile, and support lease accounting activities.

• Support process improvement initiatives as the team aims to stabilize and enhance processes post-Oracle conversion.

• Ensure robust internal controls and proper support for lease-related balance sheet accounts.

• Work in conjunction with other lease accounting team members to manage deadlines, address issues, and facilitate accurate financial reporting.

• Effectively communicate with internal partners and deliver accounting support with a customer-centric approach.

• Execute additional accounting tasks and special projects as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4+ years of general accounting experience is required.

• At least 1 year of lease accounting experience is strongly preferred.

• Experience in month-end closing processes is essential, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

• Familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting standards is preferred.

• Experience with operating leases is required or strongly preferred; exposure to finance leases or embedded leases is advantageous.

• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are required, including proficiency in formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and handling large data sets.

• Experience with Oracle and/or ProLease is preferred but not mandatory.

• Background in public accounting or experience in a public company environment is preferred.

• Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

• Ability to take initiative, recognize opportunities for process improvement, and work proactively instead of reactively.

• Excellent communication skills and capability to partner with cross-functional teams, including Real Estate, Equipment, and Finance.

• Capability to work independently while maintaining collaboration within a remote team setting.
