• Supports OP leadership in the creation, execution, oversight, and enhancement of the OP Specialty coding section.
• This encompasses: section policies and procedures, implementation of policies and procedures in clinical areas, share point sites, and other resources that aid in managing and communicating specialty coding functions, job responsibilities, and productivity standards.
• Aids the manager in employee development initiatives.
• Collaborates with the management team on the Fiscal Management of coding resources and processes.
• Assists the management team in Quality and organizational improvements, including, but not limited to, working with clinical departments to address coding and billing challenges.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for specialty coding knowledge.
• Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare field.
• 2 Years REQUIRED of experience or an Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare field with 4 Years REQUIRED of experience, or a H.S. Diploma or Equivalent with 6 Years in lieu of a degree, must possess acute care (hospital setting) OP surgical coding experience with progressive coding responsibility REQUIRED.
• 3 Years of coding experience in an acute care outpatient surgical environment; specialty coding experience in GI, wound care, hands, and spines is a plus.
• Demonstrated evidence of progression in coding responsibilities REQUIRED.
• 2 Years of experience performing CVIR coding REQUIRED.
• RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator upon hire REQUIRED or RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician upon hire REQUIRED or CCS - Certified Coding Specialist upon hire REQUIRED or COC - Certified Outpatient Coder upon hire REQUIRED or CIRCC - Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder upon hire REQUIRED.
• Capability to review coding and procedural documentation of specialty coding records, including coding and chargemaster data.
• Ability to identify and address discrepancies in coding and charges.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Skill in providing constructive feedback to coders in a clear and concise manner and translating coding guidelines and concepts into a format understandable to providers and other healthcare professionals.
• Subject matter expert in CVIR coding and other specialty areas.
• Extensive understanding of CMS, State, and Joint Commission documentation requirements.
• Competent in meeting deadlines and responding effectively to changes in coding guidelines.
• Strong organizational capabilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to analyze data and verbally and in writing summarize findings.
• Adaptive, responsive, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
• Ability to project a positive professional image.
• Handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
