Senior Software Performance Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Take charge of latency, throughput, memory usage, and thread safety within the real-time decision-making pipeline.

• Instrument the behavior pipeline to evaluate runtime performance, identifying latency spikes, resource contention, and memory inefficiencies.

• Refactor high-frequency execution loops to enhance cache utilization, eliminate dynamic memory allocations, and minimize tail latency.

• Re-architect thread boundaries and synchronization mechanisms to optimize multi-core parallel processing while ensuring thread safety.

• Develop automated micro-benchmarks and runtime telemetry within CI/CD pipelines to avert performance regressions.

• Collaborate with autonomy teams to create efficient, low-overhead C++ module interfaces for new behavioral features.

⛳️ Requirements

• Profound knowledge of CPU cache hierarchies (L1/L2/L3), memory alignment, lock-free concurrency models, and Linux OS thread scheduling.

• Practical experience with Linux profiling toolchains (e.g., Perf, Tracy, eBPF) and dynamic sanitizers (ASan, TSan, Valgrind).

• Strong expertise in modern C++ (C++17/20) with an emphasis on developing low-overhead abstractions, RAII, and cache-optimized data layouts.

• Familiarity with micro-benchmarking frameworks (e.g., Google Benchmark) and performance-regression testing within continuous integration.

• Experience in performance-sensitive software environments such as game engines, financial technology, database runtimes, or operating system kernels.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• A Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience is preferred.

• Previous experience in AV, robotics, or high-throughput real-time control systems is preferred.

• Demonstrated success in designing and scaling automated CI/CD performance testing infrastructure is preferred.
