Senior Software Engineer, VB6, Legacy Modernization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Engaging with a substantial VB6 legacy codebase that supports essential government operations on a daily basis.

• Gradual modernization efforts: leveraging AI tools to analyze, document, and comprehend intricate legacy code.

• Refactoring and developing new components using Python and SQL in conjunction with the current system.

• Crafting Python scripts, enhancing SQL queries, and troubleshooting production challenges in a multi-tenant setup.

• Integrating AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) into everyday workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in utilizing AI coding tools daily (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or comparable).

• Strong background in SQL Server and relational database architecture.

• Experience in navigating and making contributions to extensive, complex legacy codebases.

• Excellent debugging and problem-solving capabilities in production settings.

• Ability to interpret and understand VB6, COM/ActiveX, or similar legacy technologies.

• Familiarity with GIS technologies (ESRI MapObjects, ArcSDE).

• Knowledge of Jenkins or GitHub Actions for CI/CD processes.

• Experience in Python scripting for automation or tooling purposes.

• Prior involvement in legacy-to-modern migration initiatives.

• Experience with multi-tenant database architecture.
