
Senior Software Engineer – VA DSS, MCAO

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Develop, oversee, validate, and sustain national, VISN, and local DSS datasets for MCA operations and the VA’s Critical 100 application.
• Execute daily, weekly, monthly, and annual processing tasks, including fiscal period closure, fiscal year initialization, data refresh cycles, and reconciliations.
• Monitor the performance of DSS jobs, assess processing outcomes, and ensure data integrity; identify and rectify anomalies.
• Analyze cost, workload, and operational data to resolve discrepancies in collaboration with MCA analysts, VISN personnel, and facility stakeholders.
• Act as the primary operational liaison for DSS/Critical 100, engaging with business partners, system users, VISN representatives, and MCAO staff.
• Document, monitor, escalate, and resolve operational challenges.
• Ensure adherence to VA financial policies, MCA standards, DSS operational controls, and VA data quality requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of cost datasets for budgeting, cost recovery, resource allocation, workload capture, productivity measurement, and clinical analytics.
• Offer end-user support, troubleshooting assistance, and routine DSS aid.
• Maintain procedural documentation for recurring tasks and fiscal processing workflows.
• Identify opportunities for workflow efficiency and recommend enhancements.
• Coordinate processing schedules, outages, updates, and operational impacts with internal stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience in DSS/MCAO environments.
• An additional 8 years of relevant experience may substitute for educational qualifications.
• Preference for candidates with DSS/MCAO training or VA system operations experience.
• Proven experience in executing DSS operational tasks, dataset management, or other MCA-related processing functions.
• Familiarity with executing fiscal period and fiscal year processing cycles.
• Background in data analysis, reconciliation, and troubleshooting within highly regulated or compliance-driven environments.
• Strong preference for experience in supporting VA financial or clinical information systems.
• Excellent analytical skills to assess data accuracy, identify irregularities, and troubleshoot processing issues.
• Strong communication skills to engage with facility users, VISN partners, MCAO, and cross-functional teams.
• High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and compliance.
• Capability to manage time-sensitive operational tasks and adhere to strict deadlines.
• Proficient documentation skills for procedures, issue tracking, and process guidance.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage recurring cycles, and uphold mission-critical operational workflows.
• Proactive approach in anticipating the impacts of delays, errors, or data issues and implementing corrective measures.
• US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
