Senior Software Engineer – System Modernization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Implement and advance a gradual modernization strategy, effectively transitioning legacy systems into well-defined services while ensuring reliability and continuity.

• Incrementally break down monolithic systems utilizing techniques such as the strangler fig pattern.

• Oversee the coexistence of legacy and modern systems throughout the transition period.

• Establish clear service boundaries, contracts, and data ownership frameworks.

• Guarantee backward compatibility and secure evolution of APIs and data during the migration process.

• Enhance performance, scalability, and maintainability as part of modernization initiatives.

• Recognize and prioritize high-impact migration areas based on risk and value.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of production systems and operational enhancements.

• Strong experience in backend development (Ruby, Node.js, or similar technologies).

• Comprehensive understanding of REST APIs, service contracts, distributed systems, and prevalent software design patterns.

• Experience working across backend systems, APIs, and production environments.

• Practical experience with automated testing at unit, integration, and API levels.

• Background in building and managing cloud-native services on AWS.

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and contemporary deployment workflows.

• Readiness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and assist in resolving production issues.

• Experience with or strong interest in AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor).
