This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Design and create software solutions that facilitate scientific research and drug discovery.
• Develop cloud-native applications, engineering tools, and backend services utilizing Python.
• Create scalable microservices and APIs for processing, analyzing, and visualizing scientific data.
• Engage in architectural decisions and participate in technical design discussions.
• Develop and sustain analytical workflows that handle large-scale scientific datasets.
• Construct distributed data processing solutions that support bioinformatics and scientific research.
• Contribute to data ingestion, transformation, ETL pipelines, and the management of scientific data.
• Assist in enhancing the performance and scalability of high-throughput analytical workflows.
• Integrate AWS services such as EC2, S3, ECS, Batch, RDS, and KMS into production workflows.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing Jenkins or similar tools.
• Create containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Provide support for Linux-based production environments.
• Construct, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Nextflow pipelines that support scientific computing workloads.
• Collaborate with scientists to translate research needs into effective software solutions.
• Enhance workflow reliability, reproducibility, and operational efficiency.
• Lead technical discussions and mentor junior engineers.
• Promote engineering best practices across development and DevOps.
• Collaborate with international distributed teams across engineering and research.
• Balance technical excellence with business priorities and delivery timelines.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in software development, primarily with Python (preferred).
• Strong comprehension of object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
• Experience in developing backend services and microservice architectures.
• Familiarity with designing RESTful APIs (GraphQL is a plus).
• Practical experience with Nextflow is a significant advantage.
• Proven experience in building, maintaining, debugging, and optimizing production workflows.
• AWS experience, including services such as EC2, S3, ECS, Batch, RDS, IAM, and KMS.
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible.
• Experience in CI/CD practices using Jenkins or equivalent tools.
• Strong Linux command-line proficiency.
• Competence in Bash scripting.
• Experience in constructing ETL pipelines.
• Knowledge of relational databases: PostgreSQL (preferred), Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL.
• Background in Bioinformatics, Genomics, or Multi-omics.
• Experience in the Healthcare or Pharmaceutical industry.
• Familiarity with HPC (High Performance Computing).
• Proficient in Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Experience in Scientific Computing.
• Understanding of FAIR Data principles.
• Experience with Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with Robot Framework and Selenium.
• Experience with C/C++ libraries on Linux.
• Knowledge of frontend JavaScript frameworks.
