Senior Software Engineer, Promotions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries that drive the promotions engine.

• Take ownership of complex technical challenges, crafting proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for input.

• Design, architect, and implement new features from start to finish in a collaborative agile/scrum setting.

• Detect bottlenecks and potential risks in production, leading initiatives to enhance the scalability of the platform.

• Establish and improve monitoring and alerting systems in DataDog for the services you manage.

• Guide engineers on your team and across teams contributing to our codebase, through specifications, pair programming, and code reviews.

• Perform additional responsibilities as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• You have at least 5 years of experience in software engineering.

• A strong background in computer science, with significant skills in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.

• A solid understanding of production systems at scale, with experience in identifying improvement opportunities in a production setting via load testing and tracing.

• Familiarity with investigating and resolving production performance regressions, including issues like CPU hotspots and latency delays in high-throughput services.

• Experience participating in on-call rotations for a production service, including managing release cycles from start to finish.

• A strong passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven history of creating technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team design documents that withstand scrutiny.

• Proficient in modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node).

• Over 2 years of experience designing and enhancing GraphQL schemas for products utilized by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web).

• Experience in building and integrating multi-client/white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and configuration per client.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Experience with Kubernetes and comfortable managing services in a containerized environment.

• Proficient with terminal commands, Git, and GitHub or similar tools, and comfortable using your preferred editor.

• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or their equivalents.

• Experience in background job processing (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk).

• NICE TO HAVE: experience building applications in Elixir, understanding hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contributing to open-source software, experience in startups, and a passion for sports and/or esports.
