Senior Software Engineer, Promotions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries that drive the promotions engine.

• Take ownership of complex technical challenges, crafting proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for feedback.

• Architect and deliver new features from conception to completion in a collaborative agile/scrum setting.

• Identify bottlenecks and risks in production, driving necessary changes to enhance platform scalability.

• Establish and improve monitoring and alerting in DataDog for the systems you manage.

• Mentor engineers within the team and across teams contributing to our codebase through specifications, pairing, and code reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering is required.

• A strong foundation in computer science, with expertise in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.

• A solid understanding of production systems at scale, with experience in identifying improvement areas through load testing and tracing.

• Proven experience in investigating and resolving production performance regressions, including CPU hotspots and latency issues in high-throughput services.

• Familiarity with on-call rotations for production services, including managing release cycles from start to finish.

• A strong passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated by a history of creating tech specs, runbooks, and cross-team design documents that withstand scrutiny.

• Experience with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node).

• Over 2 years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces utilized by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web).

• Experience in building and integrating multi-client/white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-client configurations.

• A strong understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Experience with Kubernetes and comfort working with services in a containerized environment.

• Proficient in terminal operations, with Git and GitHub or similar tools, and in an editor of your choice.

• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent.

• Experience with background job processing tools (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk).

• Knowledge of asynchronous event handling infrastructure (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub).

• NICE TO HAVE: experience building applications in Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contributions to open source software, experience in startups, and a passion for sports and/or esports.
