Senior Software Engineer, Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of system design from start to finish, encompassing problem statements, architecture, interfaces, data models, rollout processes, and components developed by other engineers.

• Mentor and nurture engineers through teaching-focused reviews, collaborative pair programming, and challenging assignments.

• Manage API contracts among systems and teams, ensuring guarantees, versioning, and migrations are handled effectively.

• Establish and document the technical direction so that other teams can independently build upon it.

• Decompose large, complex problems into manageable, estimable, and deliverable tasks.

• Lead project delivery across team boundaries, ensuring effective coordination and follow-up.

• Write and review code while also being on-call for the systems you own.

• Take responsibility for monitoring, incident response, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence of issues.

• Act as the domain expert for the company and share your knowledge with colleagues.

• Enhance CI/CD practices, observability, testing methodologies, and documentation standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience, particularly with significant production operations of your creations.

• Proven track record of owning system-level design rather than just individual components.

• Extensive experience with distributed systems, including hands-on debugging of failure modes.

• Evidence of effective coaching, demonstrated by the growth of engineers you have supported.

• Experience managing APIs that are critical to other teams, including handling versioning and breaking-change migrations.

• Exceptional communication skills, especially in written form.

• Proficiency in at least one relevant domain: data engineering, automation, developer tooling, AI enablement, or product engineering.

• Experience leading delivery efforts across multiple teams without formal authority.

• Strong foundational knowledge and sound judgment.

• Experience as a formal tech lead or in a staff-level capacity is a plus.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, and infrastructure as code, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform is advantageous.

• Experience with high-volume data pipelines, streaming systems, or telemetry and time-series data is a plus.

• Background in deploying machine learning or LLM systems into production is beneficial.

• Experience working closely with physical infrastructure and hardware failures is a plus.

• Authorization to work in the United States is required.
