This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, and enhance functionalities within FeeNavigator utilizing PHP/Laravel and Vue.
• Create efficient database queries and improve MySQL performance as required.
• Take ownership of the quality of your work from start to finish through developer-led testing — creating unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and confirming your changes up to production.
• Enhance the health of a large, established codebase by refactoring complicated areas and breaking down high-complexity components into maintainable, well-structured code.
• Document essential business logic, application workflows, and significant architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to clarify requirements and contribute to the design of technical solutions.
• Engage in code reviews to uphold high engineering standards and share best practices.
• Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to ensure that the software is observable, resilient, secure, and ready for production.
• Diagnose and resolve incidents, defects, and performance issues in partnership with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to the continuous enhancement of development processes, tooling, and engineering practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Over 5 years of experience in developing complex applications.
• Proficiency in PHP and contemporary development practices.
• Strong grasp of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
• Experience with relational databases like MySQL (schema design, query optimization).
• Familiarity with modern frontend development (JavaScript/TypeScript, Vue, npm, basic CSS/SCSS).
• Comfort working within large, established codebases — capable of navigating unfamiliar systems, untangling complexity, and making sound adjustments with minimal guidance.
• Understanding of secure coding principles.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience contributing throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Effective utilization of AI-assisted development tools, with the discernment to identify where they add value and the discipline to review and validate their output.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
