Senior Software Engineer – Market Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Shape the overall architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems.

• Create highly scalable and mission-critical systems.

• Focus on reducing latency (every nanosecond is significant).

• Develop backend services and lead architectural decisions where scalability and resilience are crucial.

• Ensure high software quality and adequate test coverage.

• Engage in code reviews.

• Address incidents and resolve reported bugs.

• May be required to be on-call to support timely engineering initiatives.

• Construct and scale systems and services that are fundamental to Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure.

• Enhance the architecture for market data products, including stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange.

• Manage the public API structure and documentation for streaming and historical endpoints.

• Plan, conceptualize, experiment, and implement new services and libraries.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience working on large-scale systems.

• Proficiency in at least one compiled imperative programming language such as Go, C, C++, or Rust; Go is predominantly used in critical services.

• Experience with SQL or relational databases.

• Understanding of TCP/IP and UDP networking protocols.

• Competence in Linux/BSD and shell scripting.

• Proven history of architecting and leading medium-scale projects involving multiple teams.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration and scheduling systems; Alpaca primarily employs Kubernetes through GKE.

• Experience with major cloud platforms; Alpaca mainly utilizes GCP.

• Enthusiasm for financial markets.

• Familiarity with market data, microservice architectures, clean coding principles, cloud networking, low-latency applications, distributed key-value stores, CI/CD, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, capacity planning, or benchmarking is advantageous.

• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies is a plus.

• A DevOps mindset is considered an asset.
