Senior Server Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead backend development utilizing Java (Spring Boot, Hibernate, Dropwizard) and associated technologies.

• Design and create scalable microservices that support high-volume, highly available digital platforms.

• Develop, implement, and enhance RESTful APIs and service-to-service communication patterns.

• Architect and implement event-driven architectures (Kafka, asynchronous messaging).

• Create and sustain resilient integrations with both internal and external systems (including retry handling, idempotency, monitoring, and operational support).

• Manage and enhance backend event contracts, payload schemas, and service integrations, collaborating with Product, Analytics, and Data Engineering to guarantee that downstream systems (CRM, lifecycle, reporting, analytics) receive dependable, well-structured data.

• Lead API governance, service contracts, versioning strategies, and integration standards across the platform.

• Support Business As Usual (BAU) operations while identifying opportunities to mitigate technical debt, streamline legacy processes, and modernize the platform through service consolidation and architectural advancements.

• Ensure high-performance, secure, observable, and maintainable services by adhering to best practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and production monitoring.

• Oversee production incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term preventive measures.

• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, pair programming, code reviews, and mentorship, contributing to hiring, onboarding, and the career development of engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience with substantial backend engineering expertise.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

• Advanced proficiency in Java using Spring Boot, Hibernate, Dropwizard, or similar enterprise frameworks.

• A proven track record in designing distributed systems and microservice architectures.

• Demonstrated expertise in RESTful APIs and backend integration patterns.

• Profound understanding of event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka.

• Solid working knowledge of relational databases, including Postgres and Oracle.

• Familiarity with distributed caching technologies like Redis is viewed as an asset.

• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and DevOps practices.

• Strong comprehension of observability, including logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and production diagnostics.

• Proven ability to lead technical discussions and influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.

• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers within Agile (Scrum/Kanban) frameworks.

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills in English, with the capability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• A self-starter attitude with a strong sense of ownership and accountability in complex, evolving environments.

• Working knowledge of AWS and infrastructure-as-code practices.

• Familiarity with mobile application architecture and best practices for mobile platforms.

• Willingness to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally.
