This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.
• Enhance the security architecture and cryptography framework of Firefox: Play a key role in refining Firefox's core security systems, emphasizing cryptographic protocols, WebPKI, and security-sensitive web APIs. Assist in the implementation and upkeep of security features that facilitate the progression of public key infrastructure on the web.
• Develop and implement web platform security features: Collaborate with colleagues and the broader web community to create and launch web platform features. Aid in producing standards-based, secure, and interoperable implementations across Firefox.
• Elevate browser reliability, performance, and resource efficiency: Investigate and rectify issues affecting stability, correctness, and performance. Examine and enhance memory usage and efficiency within a complex, multi-threaded browser environment.
• Collaborate on security initiatives: Work alongside engineers from various teams to identify, prioritize, and tackle security challenges. Engage in debugging, root cause analysis, and the development of effective long-term solutions.
• Engage in technical design and planning: Take part in technical discussions, design reviews, and project planning for security-related projects. Assist in evaluating trade-offs and contribute to engineering decisions within your area of expertise.
• Strong foundation in software engineering and security: Proven experience in software engineering, with expertise in C/C++ and a thorough understanding of security principles, including cryptographic protocols and their implementations.
• Experience in building and sustaining complex software systems: Capability to contribute to the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software in large-scale or security-sensitive environments.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving abilities: Proficient in diagnosing and resolving issues in multi-threaded, cross-platform native applications, including performance and memory-related challenges.
• Collaborative and effective communicator: Skilled at working productively with distributed teams, clearly conveying technical concepts, and constructively collaborating to address problems.
• Growth mindset and eagerness to learn: Show a keen interest and desire to deepen knowledge in browser security, cryptography, and systems programming while continuously enhancing engineering skills.
• Familiarity with web platforms and modern systems: Knowledge of web technologies and an interest or experience in Rust. Comfortable operating within large, intricate, multi-language codebases.
