Senior Software Engineer, Ecommerce Web Applications

📋 Description

• Lead the design, hands-on development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support for PHP web applications, including a Symfony-based customer storefront and a Laravel back-office platform.

• Direct the front-end development using JavaScript (including jQuery) and CSS to create responsive, accessible, and high-performing customer experiences.

• Advocate for and enhance the team's AI-assisted development workflows by utilizing AI tools on a daily basis, sharing techniques, and raising standards for effective and responsible usage.

• Take ownership of the data layer by designing and optimizing queries and schema interactions with relational databases such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL, along with supporting services.

• Establish and maintain engineering standards through code reviews, mentorship, testing practices, and comprehensive technical documentation including design documents, runbooks, and onboarding materials.

• Enhance the reliability, observability, alerting, and incident response capabilities for critical customer-facing systems.

• Identify opportunities to simplify legacy components, minimize technical debt, and achieve long-term efficiency improvements.

• Break down large initiatives into manageable tasks and effectively communicate status updates, roadblocks, and dependencies to engineering and product leadership.

• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Engineering leadership to deliver scalable, user-centric features that enhance business value.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 5 years of professional software development experience, particularly with a focus on ecommerce or high-traffic web applications.

• Extensive, hands-on expertise with PHP, including production experience with Symfony and/or Laravel frameworks.

• Strong front-end development skills with JavaScript and CSS, along with a solid understanding of web fundamentals such as HTTP, browser behavior, performance, and accessibility.

• In-depth knowledge of relational databases and SQL, encompassing query optimization and schema design.

• Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and maintaining production systems with comprehensive end-to-end ownership.

• Practical experience in utilizing AI coding tools for development and the capability to mentor others in their effective use, as this is a team driven by AI development.

• Familiarity with testing practices (unit/integration), Git workflows, and CI/CD processes.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
