Senior Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure – RDBMS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, manage, and scale relational database systems that handle data at a petabyte scale.

• Take full ownership of the database serving layer, ensuring optimal query performance, cost-efficiency, and high availability.

• Optimize queries, create indexes, and refine schemas for petabyte-scale Postgres/Citus.

• Leverage AI-driven analysis to uncover opportunities for data compression and modeling, implementing validated changes in production.

• Develop autonomous automation for database operations, including pgbouncer provisioning, disk scaling, and blue-green deployments.

• Lead the validation process for database changes prior to their deployment in production.

• Oversee CDC pipelines utilizing PeerDB, Fivetran, and Debezium while troubleshooting replication issues.

• Transition workloads from legacy infrastructure and prototype new data storage solutions.

• Generate AI-native runbooks and enhance internal tooling.

• Collaborate with product-engineering teams to coordinate schema modifications.

• Engage in an on-call rotation approximately every 15 days, covering a 24-hour window across two days for each shift.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in building and operating production PostgreSQL environments (Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or similar distributed Postgres systems).

• Extensive skills in SQL optimization, including Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and query planner behavior in distributed settings.

• Practical experience with CDC tools such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte.

• Proficiency in database profiling using pganalyze or comparable tools.

• Experience in production automation using Python or Go.

• Regular use of AI coding tools like Claude and Copilot.

• Proven ability to implement AI-assisted analysis that results in tangible cost or performance enhancements in production database systems.

• Capacity to work aligned with US and Canada working hours.

• Readiness and capability to join an on-call rotation approximately every 15 days, subject to regional compliance review.
