Senior Software Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and take ownership of high-throughput, distributed data pipelines and platform infrastructure from inception to production.

• Break down large, ambiguous projects into structured, actionable plans that the team can execute in parallel.

• Develop production-grade Python code—strongly typed, well-organized, and durable—rather than relying on scripts or notebooks.

• Enhance SQL performance at scale: optimize queries, model data, and comprehend execution plans.

• Architect solutions that span across systems—defining contracts between frontend and backend services as well as infrastructure.

• Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior engineers while collaborating directly with leadership on roadmap and technical decisions.

• Implement monitoring systems for observability—understanding what to track, not just how to interpret a dashboard.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience with full accountability for production systems.

• Strong expertise in Python (including mypy, Pydantic, and proper abstractions) and SQL at scale.

• Extensive experience in building and managing distributed data pipelines and event-driven architectures.

• Practical experience with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, IAM, CloudWatch, and cost-effective design.

• Proficiency in using Docker as a primary practice.

• Regular and fluent use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, etc.) as part of your daily routine.

• Experience with observability tools like Datadog or similar.

• Familiarity with frameworks and tools such as FastAPI, Django, SQLAlchemy, Celery, or Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK) is highly advantageous.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
