This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Enhance the security architecture and cryptography framework of Firefox: Play a key role in enhancing Firefox's core security mechanisms, focusing on cryptographic protocols, WebPKI, and security-sensitive web APIs. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security features that facilitate the advancement of public key infrastructure on the web.
• Develop and implement web platform security features: Create and deploy web platform functionalities in partnership with colleagues and the wider web community. Contribute to secure, standards-compliant, and interoperable implementations within Firefox.
• Boost browser reliability, performance, and resource efficiency: Investigate and address issues affecting stability, correctness, and performance. Evaluate and enhance memory utilization and efficiency in a complex, multi-threaded browser setting.
• Collaborate on security initiatives: Work alongside engineers from various teams to identify, prioritize, and resolve security concerns. Engage in debugging, root cause analysis, and the implementation of effective long-term solutions.
• Participate in technical design and planning: Engage in technical discussions, design reviews, and project planning related to security initiatives. Assist in evaluating trade-offs and contribute to engineering decisions relevant to your area of expertise.
• Strong foundation in software engineering and security: Experience in software engineering, with expertise in C/C++ and a solid grasp of security principles, including cryptographic protocols and their implementations.
• Experience in building and maintaining complex software systems: Capability to contribute to the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software in large-scale or security-sensitive settings.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities: Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving issues in multi-threaded, cross-platform native applications, including challenges related to performance and memory.
• Effective communicator and collaborator: Ability to work efficiently with distributed teams, articulate technical concepts clearly, and work collaboratively to solve problems.
• Growth mindset and eagerness to learn: Proven curiosity and desire to enhance knowledge in browser security, cryptography, and systems programming while continuously improving engineering skills.
• Experience with web platforms and modern systems: Familiarity with web technologies and an interest or experience in Rust. Comfortable operating within large, complex, multi-language codebases.
