This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Design features, write production code on a daily basis, and tackle challenging issues in real-time AI systems.
• Take ownership of the design, implementation, deployment, and health of live sites.
• Develop and sustain a conversational voice AI system tailored for the automotive sector.
• Integrate speech-to-text, text-to-speech, large language models (LLMs), and telephony systems.
• Enhance real-time audio pipelines to achieve low latency and high-quality outputs.
• Manage observability through self-hosted LangFuse, CloudWatch dashboards and alerts, and LLM cost attribution.
• Build resilience by implementing circuit breakers, multi-provider LLM failover, and retry/backoff strategies.
• Design event-driven, cross-account AWS infrastructure utilizing EventBridge and SQS.
• Deliver infrastructure as code with AWS CDK across both containerized and serverless architectures.
• Oversee release engineering utilizing semantic-release, monorepo versioning, and cost-allocation tagging.
• Provide fault-tolerant, highly available telephony integrations with robust error handling.
• Incorporate AI coding agents into daily engineering routines.
• Contribute to systems design and influence critical technical decisions.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and architectural patterns.
• Lead initiatives that enhance engineering productivity, quality, and scalability.
• Design and implement scalable systems that bridge modern and legacy technologies.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical issues.
• Transform business requirements into effective technical strategies.
• Share knowledge through documentation, presentations, collaborative sessions, and insightful code reviews.
• Support engineers in developing leadership and technical competencies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or demonstrated equivalent expertise in algorithms, systems design, and distributed computing.
• Over 5 years of experience in building and scaling production systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Strong experience with AWS, including ECS, Lambda, EventBridge, RDS/ElastiCache, SQS, CloudWatch, networking, and IAM.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code using CDK.
• Experience with CI/CD and release automation tools, such as semantic-release or similar.
• Production database experience with PostgreSQL.
• Proven experience in integrating third-party systems like dealership management platforms, scheduling tools, and CRMs, or similar enterprise API integration experience.
• Strong emphasis on testing, observability, and reliability.
• Experience in developing LLM applications, focusing on prompt engineering, context management, and latency optimization.
• Familiarity with real-time systems, including WebSockets and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with high-throughput distributed systems and performance optimization under stringent latency requirements.
• Knowledge of telephony/VoIP systems, including SIP, RTP, and audio codecs.
• Excellent communication skills with a customer-centric mindset.
