This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Design, develop, test, document, and implement high-quality software for production environments.
• Create features and tools utilized by the engineering team.
• Engage in on-call rotations as necessary to resolve software issues.
• Elevate tasks or projects that face obstacles.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold code quality and disseminate knowledge.
• Contribute to team planning and design discussions.
• Influence software quality and enhance the customer experience of product features.
• Enhance testability, operational excellence metrics, and team documentation.
• Assist in defining and adhering to engineering strategy principles, guidelines, and best practices.
• Develop a deep understanding of the industry, products, feature set, and roadmap.
• Collaborate with product teams and internal stakeholders on technology decisions that enhance products.
• Mentor and onboard junior engineers and interns.
• Stay updated on software development technologies and trends.
• Occasionally travel to Fanatics offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities.
• Over 5 years of experience in building highly scalable, high-performance backend distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Spring with Kotlin and/or Java is advantageous.
• Capability to drive best practices in backend development and mentor others in clean coding, hexagonal/layered architectures, domain-driven design, and other design and architectural patterns.
• Knowledge of observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and tracing within distributed systems.
• Expertise in Agile software delivery and process improvement across teams.
• Ability to collaborate across diverse teams within large enterprise environments.
• Exceptional communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, and non-technical stakeholders.
• A team-oriented mindset and dedication to continuous improvement.
• Ability to flourish in a high-growth environment with shifting priorities and rapid decision-making.
• Preferred: strong experience in the sports industry, gaming, and content delivery.
• Preferred: highly skilled in Kotlin, Java, and/or Go.
• Preferred: expertise in Kafka or Amazon SQS and event-driven architectures.
• Preferred: familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Cloud Native, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Preferred: ability to work with both legacy and greenfield codebases across various languages and environments.
