This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Spearhead the architecture, design, and development of new features, utilizing Python.
• Make key architectural decisions, facilitate alignment, and enhance applications for performance, scalability, and accessibility.
• Implement industry-leading software development practices (unit testing, integration testing, performance testing, monitoring, comprehensive functional specifications, and test plans) to maintain the reliability and fault tolerance of RapidSOS' products.
• Identify opportunities to evaluate and improve existing applications, including code refactoring and technology upgrades.
• Collaborate in an agile setting with stakeholders across Engineering, Design, GTM, and Product to create solutions for RapidSOS products.
• Utilize modern AI development tools (such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to expedite delivery and enhance code quality.
• Engage actively in code reviews and standups, sharing insights, advocating best practices, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of team processes.
• Take ownership of significant components of our platform, make a meaningful impact, and grow alongside the company.
• Over 5 years of professional backend experience with substantial expertise in Python.
• Extensive experience in building asynchronous, event-driven systems using message bus technologies like RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS, etc.
• Proven experience in integrating with RESTful APIs and delivering complete end-to-end solutions within an AWS environment.
• Experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
• Ideally possesses experience in developing AI-driven features or utilizing AI tools to enhance development speed and is proactive about adopting new technologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a team player with a positive demeanor.
• Highly self-motivated with the ability to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership.
• Strong understanding of coding best practices – capable of writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Customer-centric approach; deeply cares about delivering solutions that empower and delight customers while achieving product objectives.
• Proven problem-solving skills – from troubleshooting issues to debugging a complex codebase.
• Willingness and ability to collaborate in-person several times a quarter, or as necessary.
