Senior Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and maintain the Spacetime platform using C++, Golang, Java, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers.

• Create scalable, distributed systems on Kubernetes.

• Develop features for Spacetime related to 5G NTN and Direct-to-Cell orchestration.

• Implement RIC/SMO capabilities for NTN, network model extensions, and federation APIs for TN-NTN coordination.

• Convert 3GPP and O-RAN concepts and interface specifications into clean, thoroughly tested software in collaboration with solution architects.

• Integrate with other components of the Aalyria platform to ensure end-to-end functionality.

• Create and maintain documentation for software design and implementation.

• Keep current with advancements in 5G NTN, O-RAN, and satellite communication technologies.

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.

• Diagnose and resolve software issues through troubleshooting and debugging.

• Design and develop distributed systems within a modern, cloud-native codebase.

• Collaborate with 3GPP/NTN solution architects to enhance standards and systems expertise.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent professional experience.

• Experience in C++, Golang, and/or Java in a professional setting.

• Familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers.

• Proven experience in building and operating distributed systems.

• Understanding of wireless communications, wireless performance modeling, or satellite communications.

• Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to engage across various functions.

• Applicants must fulfill U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements, which include qualifying as a U.S. person, being eligible to access export-controlled information without authorization, or being likely to obtain the necessary export authorization.

• Preferred: Professional software development experience within systems related to 3GPP 4G/5G networks.

• Preferred: Hands-on experience with O-RAN architecture, including SMO, Non-RT/Near-RT RIC, rApps, xApps, or O-RAN interfaces.

• Preferred: Familiarity with 3GPP NTN and Direct-to-Cell / Supplemental Coverage from Space concepts.

• Preferred: Experience in implementing or integrating 3GPP or O-RAN APIs and data models.

• Preferred: Background in wireless standards work or applying 3GPP/ETSI/O-RAN specifications in production software.

• Preferred: Practical experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native telecom deployments.

• Preferred: Professional experience in optimizing distributed-system performance.

• Preferred: Experience in aerospace & defense or telecommunications sectors.

• Preferred: Knowledge of software-defined networking platforms.
