Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of features and challenges from inception through design, delivery, and ongoing support.

• Create and implement full-stack solutions for both internal and public web applications, making informed architectural decisions throughout the process.

• Utilize AI tools and agents effectively, followed by reviewing, testing, and reinforcing everything you deploy.

• Participate in the entire development life cycle: analysis, implementation, integration, testing, debugging, and support.

• Conduct code reviews and elevate quality standards while mentoring fellow engineers.

• Collaborate directly with end users and stakeholders to grasp the business challenges behind each request.

• Assist in setting estimates and timelines, balancing technical risks with costs and deadlines to maintain project momentum.

• Contribute to shaping the future direction of the engineering team and AHEAD.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building and delivering software (7+ years preferred), demonstrating a history of managing substantial projects from start to finish.

• Strong engineering judgment, allowing you to discern high-quality solutions from inferior ones, including code generated by AI.

• A product-oriented mindset: you prioritize the user experience and the outcomes, paying close attention to the details that enhance software usability.

• Proficient in modern AI development tools and coding agents, with the discipline to verify, test, and take ownership of all deployed solutions.

• Flexibility to adapt across various stacks, quickly learning new languages and frameworks. (Our current stack includes Elixir and Phoenix; prior experience is advantageous but not essential.)

• A solid understanding of software design, architecture, and practices that ensure system reliability, including testing, continuous integration, code reviews, and containerization.

• Clear and direct communication skills to convey intent effectively to both teammates and the tools utilized.

• The mindset of a senior engineer: you lead initiatives, mentor peers, and elevate the capabilities of those around you.
